Russian River Pliney the Younger

Out in Santa Rosa, California they definitely do it different and Pliney the Younger brewed by Russian River Brewery is a perfect example. Not only is Pliney the Younger a beer but also a history lesson. Pliney the Younger Beer Label There is a Pliney the Younger and a Pliney the Elder beer representing 2 Romans that lived around 79 AD. Pliney the Elder was Pliney the Younger's Uncle and helped raise and educate him. The Plineys were both notable figures and wrote many letters as a source for history during their time period. Im not sure the actual connection to the beer but it is still a cool story non-the-less. Pliny the Younger fat bottle of beer Pliney the Younger is a Triple India Pale ale with triple the amount of hops as the regular IPA's. So if you are a true IPA lover you should definitely try this beer. The beer is a 10.5%, copper color beer with a pretty balanced bitterness. This beer is a very difficult beer to make therefore being very time consuming and very expensive. Citrus and Floral aromas can be found in the beer along with mango and pineapple. Pliney the Youner has a taste of grapefruit and sourness and is very light and easy to drink for a high ABV content. You can pretty much only find this beer in or around Santa Rosa, California. I highly suggest to try this beer if you are out west, it kind of sucks that it is one of those beers that will probably change your outlook on beer and it is very, very limited.
