Sam Adams Utopias

Sam Adams is a beer brand that is known across the world.  The original recipe for the Samuel Adams Boston Lager was developed in 1860 in St. Louis Missouri by Louis Koch.  Through the years the Sam Adams brewing was kept in the family all the way
down to Jim Koch, the fifth generation son.
In 1984 he brewed his first batch of Sam Adams in his kitchen with the original recipe.  Jim Koch graduated from Harvard and he left his career at Boston Consulting group and founded Samuel Adams Beer.  In April 1985 Jim re-introduced the Samuel Adams Boston Lager and in three months was rated "Best Beer in America".  From then on the brewing was set on light speed mode and the brewery took off.  Sam Adams has beers brewed year round, four season beers, and then Sam Adams Utopias. I never even knew something like this even existed in the world. Utopias was started in 2002 and is one of the strongest naturally fermented commercial beers in the world at a 27% ABV.  Utopias is brewed with caramel, Vienna, Bavarian, and Moravian smoked malts along with four hops.  This beer sits and marinates in scotch, cognac, and port barrels for a year!  In the 2009 batch release some of the blends have been ageing up to 16 years in the barrel room.
This beer pours a gorgeous copper plum brown hue leaving behind long, big, sticky legs as you swirl the glass around.  The smell is of the heavens with vanilla, dark fruit, oak, and earthy
notes.  The taste is something in another universe, with vanilla running out of the glass into your mouth.  The dark fruits join in after the vanilla, with sweetness, brown sugar, and molasses.  The brandy alcohol is in the finish with a little burn, wood, and oak.  Sam Adams Utopias is a beer that is unlike anything in the world.  Sam Adams Utopias comes in a amazing ceramic bottle and only a limited amount are released every two years.  With a great, unique beer comes a great price.  Sam Adams Utopias is valued at a price of 150$ a pop, which is pretty pricey but at the same time one glass of this stuff will probably send you to bed.  This surely is a one of a kind beer and is definitely a "must drink" before you die kind of drink.
