Hardy-wood Brewery based out of my home town of Richmond, Va and has been on the fast rise to success in the past year. Hardywood Brewery was founded on November 5, 2011 and already has its signature Hardywood Singel beer in almost every store and bar around the area.
Co-founders Eric Mckay and Patrick Murtaugh were in Australia at a sheep station called Hardywood Park when they became infatuated with craft beer. Ever since, they have been brewing beer in the heart of my home town. Hardywood Park Craft Brewery is a 12,000 square foot building located downtown next to our baseball stadium and has the ability to create a wide range of traditional style beers. The Hardywood Singel is their Belgian Abbey-style Blonde Ale with a 6.2% ABV and is available year round. The pour is a bright sunny golden color, with a puffy white head, and the smell of Belgian yeast is very strong. You can smell the tropical fruitiness sensation of apricot, mango, and pear with the balance of spicy hops.
When you taste this beer, you get a mixture of sweet maltiness while the bitterness of hops coats your mouth. The aftertaste leaves the lemon and citrus hanging around in your mouth wanting more. Hardywood Singel is a very smooth beer and has a perfect mild carbonation. Hardywood Singel goes great with southern style cooking, wide ranges of seafood, and even Italian food. It is extremely amazing how fast the brewery has been growing in the last 9 months. So next time you are driving down 95 through Richmond, pull off and stop by the brewery. You will be seeing great things from The Hardywood Brewery in many years to come.
